Ian Gaskell

The British artist, Ian Gaskell, was born in Stretford, Manchester, in 1948 and lived in Bury and then Walkden until age 14. In 1962 he moved to Wigan but went to Bolton School. On leaving school he became a mine surveyor and worked at several Lancashire collieries. In 1986 he moved to Shropshire and worked as Colliery Surveyor for a number of private coal mines near Newcastle-under-Lyme until the last one closed around 2000.
