Create a Smoothly Blended Household
So. Ten minutes into the date, you knew you’d found Mr. Right. No reason to dilly-dally, then. Just ignore his shocked expression when you show up the next day with a full moving van and handtruck.
The magazine at furniture.com offers this article on how to confidently combine your furnishings with his to create a coordinated interior space. The article is written for newlyweds, but there’s no reason to wait for a wedding. If you’ve got that gut feeling everything’s going to work out this time, just go with it.
The article’s author, Davis Remignanti, offers a number of helpful tips for blending all of your furnishings into a harmonious household. Among them:
– “Mix, don’t match. Follow your decorating instincts with pieces that suit both your interests and activities.” And be sure to set his Travis the Singing Trout on the curb, along with his old Tupac posters.
– “Get inspired — Research as a couple. Pile together on the couch and scan newspapers, magazines, and TV shows.” Though, if your new boyfriend enjoys cuddling on the couch and discussing interior design, you might want to rethink whether he’s your Mr. Right or whether his heart already belongs to his roommate, Benji.
– “Be realistic in setting spending limits and work within them.” If those spending limits are too low to suit your tastes, get sauced and angrily accuse your loverboy of being a cheapskate. Tell him you’re ashamed to invite friends over. Then filch his credit card in the middle of the night and treat yourself to a spending spree the next day.
Interior decorating can really bring a couple closer together. Especially a couple that’s only been on a single date. Have fun!
