What makes a book Chick Lit?


ChickLit
Everyone could formulate their own ideas about what “chick lit” entails but the common idea is that it is a contemporary genre of women’s fiction with a protagonist who’s both searching for something missing in her life (usually romance).

Often it is set in an urban backdrop with a heroine who is an imperfect and relatable protagonist who readers can instinctively relate to and, most importantly, one who they will cheer for.

The folks at AuthorsOnTheWeb.com put together a round table of authors to discuss “ChickLit” and some FAQs surrounding the genre. For example what was the first Chick Lit book they read? Is there a Chick Lit formula, or certain “must haves”? Is there a value to Chick Lit other than escapism or entertainment?
