Mother Nature may hold secret to dating
Think the big tough guys always get the girl? Well, mother nature may have something to say about that.
Recent studies of the Japanese quail have found that the “experienced” females of this species do not care for overly aggressive mates. When given a choice, these procreating balls of feathers consistently select the less powerful of two males. And there is more evidence…. the University of Arizona found that female coho salmon are also more likely to mate with mature males of a smaller size.
Good news for me, the dating guy!
If any of you guys out there think that is cozy - listen to this! According to a study by the University of Melbourne, Australia’s male Zeus bug has it made. Females provide them with free food and transportation, and they get unlimited sex whenever they want it. “All the advantages in this relationship seem to fall to the male with no obvious advantage for the female, yet the female Zeus bug seems a willing partner in this one-sided affair,” said Dr. Mark Elgar of the University of Melbourne.
As close as researchers can figure, it is easier and safer for the female to woo a male and maintain one monogamous relationship than it would be for them to brave the hardships and confusions of polygamy.
