Breaking up for Dummies
Endings are never pretty…esepcially when it comes to matters of the heart.
Jon Platner from AskMen.com has outlined some guidelines to make it as painless as possible. Platner has written from a male perspective so I’ll try and throw in a few tips for the gents as well.
Anticipating how they’ll react is key. What’s the history between the teo of you? Have you done the deed yet? Has she threatened to boil your hamster if you break her heart? Does he own a half dozen rifles and claims he just shoots at empty pop cans?
Choose a course of action. If you think they can handle the blunt truth lay it out for them: ” I think I can do much better and the thought of kissing you isn’t appealing anymore.” For many this is too harsh so you may want to dial it down a notch and sprinkle it with sugar.
What not to do - Don’t lie, don’t lead them on, don’t communicate through a friend, don’t keep them hoping…don’t cheat on them hoping that will make it easier to break up.
