Online daters sue dating web sites for fraud

Get this.

“Match.com is accused in a federal lawsuit of goading members into renewing their subscriptions through bogus romantic e-mails sent out by company employees. In some instances, the suit contends, people on the Match payroll even went on sham dates with subscribers as a marketing ploy.”

And this.

“In a separate suit, Yahoo’s personals service is accused of posting profiles of fictitious potential dating partners on its website to make it look as though many more singles subscribe to the service than actually do.”

Yikes! That’s gotta chap a few hides. Have any of you noticed suspicious activities in your online dating experience? What do you make of all this? True or just another money-grab via law suit? Weigh in with your comments below.

Update: Anon sends us this link, a sort of investigation into the profile of one of the named “date baiters”

  1. sometimes when i log in and see those “featured” profiles i have to wonder what is not adding up. Incredibly hot guys with ivy league educations and profiles that read “more interested in inner beauty”. Laugh Laugh. Seems like a clue right there don’t you think?

  2. As soon as your subscription expires, you get emails from the company telling you that you have new flirts or messages. The catch is that you have to renew for at least a month in order to review the messages…Also, it appears that if you are getting legitimate messages around the time your subscription is about to expire, they may be delaying the messages until you either renew or if you don’t renew, you will then be notified that you have “new” messages from interested parties..however, this is a business afterall……I will get flirts and when I respond to the flirts, the person sending the flirt doesn’t acknowledge that I even responded, which makes me wonder, if that person actually sent the flirt.
